then laughing about the whole
thing. On Mr. Parker's last day
at WDFN before departing for
Long Island Newsday, Stoney
was openly emotional on the air.
His current partner is News
columnist Bob Wojnowski.
"For me, he (Stone) is in many
ways the perfect partner," said
Mr. Wojnowski, who uses the
nickname Wojo. "He generally
has the answer to any question.
I try to be light and goofy and
have fun with things. He keeps
the ship running on course, com-
ing up with the solid answers and
being the moderating voice in
many ways.
"He calls himself a sports
geek," continued Wojo. "But not
in a bad way. I think that's what
people relate to, the everyman
status."
That probably includes his
marital status as well. He is en-
gaged to Southfield resident
Cyndi Rissman. It's his hope to
stay in the Detroit area. He and
Ms. Rissman will be getting mar-
ried in October at Temple Beth
El.
"I can do this my whole life,"
he said of his career.
Stoney wears his Jewishness
publicly. He has spoken on the
air about needing to leave early
for a Passover seder or the need
to attend Rosh Hashanah ser-
vices. He would sometimes joke
with Rob Parker about a "black
and a Jew" working together on
radio.
One thing is for sure: He is
proud of his faith, never hiding
his identity. Plus, there have
been times when he passionate-
ly defends other minorities.
"I think it is good for Jews to
know there other Jews out there
doing stuff," he said. "I some-
times poke fun at us. Jews have
the ability to laugh at themselves
as well as other people."
One thing for sure, he does not
like it when people of any reli-
gion force their faith on others.
He was highly critical of Col-
orado football coach Bill Mc-
Cartney's involvement with the
evangelistic group, Promise
Keepers.
"I don't wear a Jewish star or
a Chai," he said."I wouldn't force
my views on religion on anyone,
and I hate it when people do."
Anything about himself he'd
like to see change?
"I wish I had the personality
to be a little meaner."
How's the show doing?
"The demographics are OK,"
he said. "We're the most listened-
to show on the station. It takes
two to three years to get a station
such as this going."
"The most important thing,"
he said, "is I'm the guy you want
to have lunch with. I am not
above anybody. I'm not more
knowledgeable than most fans. I
have a job most would love to
have. I'm very fortunate and it's
fun." ❑
