LETTERS page 8

"Imagine the euphoric stand-
ing ovation at the rally if Prime
Minister (and Labor Party leader)
Shimon Peres and Likud Party
leader Benjamin Netanyahu
were to shake hands on the dais.
It would dramatize that we Jews
are united in our love of Judaism,
our love of Israel and our love of
peace."
This-sincerely motivated plea
— to include in the rally's pro-
gram the leader of Israel's legit-
imate — and unjustly maligned
opposition party, Likud, re-
mained unheeded. However, it
did not evoke a boycott of the ral-
ly on the part of ZOA and Young
Israel.

Hunting For
Positive Coverage

I read your article, "Arnie Get.
Your Gun," in the Dec. 1 edition.
It was a pleasure to see one or
two of we Jewish outdoorsmen
getting some positive coverage.
While they are looked down upon
by many Jews, hunting and
shooting sports are an enjoyable
outlet for a great number of us.
Hunting seems to be a small,
yet growing area for Jewish par-
ticipation. I am personally ac-
quainted with only two other
Jewish hunters but, shooting
sports find Jews very well repre-
sented. The Single Action Shoot-
ers Society (Cowboy Shooters in
full costume) has a number of
Jewish participants. Metallic Sil-
houette Pistol Shooters (long-dis-
tance shooting at metal targets)
has had matches where Jewish
shooters made up 25 percent of
the participants.
We are also involved in com-
petitive archery, trap and skeet
shooting, fishing and other out-
doors activities.

Pleased With
St. Vincent Article

On behalf of Adat Shalom, I want
to tell you how pleased we were
with your Dec. 22 article on the
collections for the St. Vincent De
Paul Society. So many families
took the time and effort to donate
items, and I know they, too, must
have felt very good when reading
Julie Edgar's story.
We appreciated your coming
out to the synagogue to talk with
our members, social-action chair-
man, staff and clergy. Your in-
teresting article certainly shows
the result of that effort.
Judy Marx
Communications Director,
Adat Shalom Synagogue
