Unemployment
Rate Decreases

Jerusalem - The unemployment
rate set a seven-year low as it fell
to 6 percent in the third quarter
from 7.6 percent during the same
period last year, according to fig-
ures released by the Central Bu-
reau of Statistics.
In the previous quarter, the
unemployment rate was 6.2 per-
cent, after having stood at 6.8 per-
cent and 7.6 percent during the
two previous quarters.
The number of jobless people
who actively sought work during
the July-September period aver-
aged 139,000 a week, a decline of
16.5 percent from last year's fig-
ure of 166,000.
Overall as of September, the
country's civilian workforce av-
eraged 2.065 million people a
week, an increase of 3.9 percent
since the equivalent period last
year.
The number of women who
joined the workforce grew 6.2 per-
cent during the third quarter,
while that of Men increased only
by 2.9 percent.
