ANEW VISION IN CANCER CARE
MIRO Affiliated Radiation Oncology Centers

MIRO Affiliated Radiation Oncology Centers are an advanced system
of cancer treatment facilities dedicated to helping and healing cancer
patients. The System embodies a new vision in cancer care, devoting
the highest caliber resources to the expansion and improvement of the
cancer treatment services in Southeastern Michigan. What sets MIRO
apart from other treatment facilities is the commitment of every
member of its staff to give the highest priority to patient convenience,
comfort and needs. Every aspect of the treatment is tailored
recogn iz ing the unique concerns of cancer patients and their loved ones
in their fight against cancer.

MIRO Philosophy

The basic philosophy of MIRO is founded on seven principles:

1. commitment: The MIRO professional staff are committed
to combining advanced technology with personalized care in a friendly,
professional and compassionate setting.

2. competence:

Board Certified cancer specialists, including
radiation and medical oncologists and surgeons, medical physicists and
dosimetrists, certified oncology nurses, registered radiation therapists,
simulation specialists and support personnel are dedicated, 24 hours
a day, to car _ e for cancer patients with the state-of-the-art treatment
techniques.

Plans are in progress for two other cancer treatment facilities in
Clarkston and Monroe, Michigan. MIRO staff will arrange all aspects
of patient's needs including: scheduling for blood work, CT scanning,
diagnostic radiology, MRI, dental, and psychosocial consultation, as
well as educational programs, transportation, housing and parking.

'ompassion: MIRO is founded on the principle that every
patient is unique and has a right to expect the most technologically-
advanced and professional, yet friendly, courteous and compassionate
treatment from MIRO physicians and staff. The care at MIRO is
designed to preserve the respect, dignity and quality of life of patients
and their loved ones.

5. rommunication:

Communication with the general public
is essential to the optimum cancer service to the community. MIRO
provides the following public services to the community:
• "MIRO Cancer Information Hotline" is a free service
set up to communicate with those concerned about cancer. Oncology
physicians and oncology certified nurses answer questions regarding
the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

1-800-344-MIRO (6476)

• Personal Cancer Risk Assessment is a free computer
program which scientifically calculates a person's risk of developing
the most common cancers using the individual's personal data. It
then recommends available screening tests and their frequency, which
the person should pursue. The MIRO Cancer Risk report is designed
to be shared with a person's physician in order to develop a
comprehensive cancer prevention and early detection program.

Educational materials on cancer:
videotapes and audiotapes are provided free of charge to anyone
requiring information or specific details about cancer treatment
methods by simply contacting any of the MIRO Centers.
Free Cancer Screening Programs are offered

periodically by MIRO for different types of cancer, including cancer
of the prostate, skin and breast.

6. r011abOrati011: MIRO Physicians and Staff in collaboration
with St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Botsford Hospital, Oakland General
Hospital, Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital, Huron Valley Hospital,
Crittenton Hospital, Henry Ford Hospital, Wayne State University,
Detroit Medical Center, Children's Hospital, and the American Cancer
Society conduct clinical trials and provide clinical research and
educational programs.

7. ra pa bIlltleS: MIRO Physicians in association with the
medical oncologists and surgeons provide cancer programs for every
type of cancer. The special cancer treatment programs at MIRO
include:

• External Megavoltage Photon Beam Therapy
• External Beam Megavoltage Electron Therapy
• 3-D Computerized Treatment Planning
• Intravenous Brachytherapy for Bone Metastases
• High Dose Rate Remote Afterloading Brachytherapy
• Hyperfractionated Radiosurgery
• Whole Body/Skin Electron Beam Therapy
• Concurrent Chemo-radiation Therapy
• Interdisciplinary Treatment Programs
