Machon L'Torah, will hold its
next Jewish History Lecture Se-
ries on Jan. 6. The lecture will be
presented by Rabbi Shrnuel
Irons, dean, Kollel Institute of
Greater Detroit, on the topic of
"The Sage and the Emperor: The
T ,ife and Times of Rabbi Yehudah
Hanasi and the Roman emperor
Antoninus." The event will be
held at 9 p.m. at Machon L'Torah,
15221 W. Ten Mile Rd. Oak Park.
Lectures will be given every oth-
er Saturday evening. There is a
charge. For information and reg-
istration, call Dr. Mark Blu-
menkehl, 557-5725; or Dr. David
Weingarden, 569-7066.
Machon will hold the first of
the 1996 Russian semester se-
ries. The program will start with
an educational lecture by Rabbi
Avraham Jacobovitz on the top-
ic of "Making Lemons into
Lemonade." Mr. Roman Lundin
will translate the lecture into
Russian simultaneously. The
event will be held at Machon
L'Torah on Jan. 7, at 7:30 p.m.
Refreshments will be served.

Beginning Jan. 29, Temple Beth
El will offer a 15-week seminar,
"Introduction to Judaism," espe-
cially designed for prospective
converts, non-Jewish partners of
Jews and Jews seeking a better
understanding ofJudaism. The
class, which provides an oppor-
tunity to explore Judaism in a
comfortable and- congenial at-
mosphere, will be led by Rabbi
Jonathan V. Plaut, rabbinic
scholar. The group will meet
Monday evenings, 7:30-9 p.m. at
the temple.
"Introduction to Judaism" fo-
cuses on Jewish practices, cus-
toms and ceremonies as well as
biblical foundations, history, the
basic beliefs of the mainstream
branches ofJudaism and more.
Time for questions and discus-
sion is a part of each session.
Couples are urged to take the
seminar together and will be
charged a single fee. To register,
or for information, call the reli-
gious school, 851-1100.
