A Carnival

ORT Group
Tours Gallery

The annual Chanukah Carnival
of Yeshiva Beth Yehuda's PTA
will be held Sunday, Dec. 24,
from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
A Tot Room with games and
prizes for the very young, Plas-
ter Playhouse, crafts, and a va-
riety of carnival games and
prizes for children of all ages are
being featured.
A hot dog or chili lunch and a
selection of goodies will be on
sale. The carnival's location will
be Sally Allen Alexander Beth
Jacob School, on the corner of 10
Mile Road and Church in Oak
Park.

Michigan Region of Women's
American ORT will have a tour
at the Janice Charach Epstein
Gallery on Thursday, Jan. 18, at
11:30 a.m. which will feature
"Letters Dipped in Honey" (An-
tique children's Hebrew books)
and the Judaic art of Ben Glick-
er.
Mr. Glicker is a local artist and
will speak to the group that day.
Convene for lunch afterwards in
the cafeteria. Admission is free.

Men and women are invited to
sign up for Adat Shalom Syna-
gogue Men's Club's Hebrew Lit-
eracy classes which will begin on
Monday, Jan. 8. Classes will con-
tinue from 7:30 to 9 p.m. on Mon-
day evenings through March 4.
Classes are offered at three
levels. Beginners (those with no
previous Hebrew knowledge) will
learn the letters and vowels and
some of the prayers of the Friday
night service. Intermediates will
focus on learning to lead the
Shabbat morning service
prayers. Advanced students will
improve their skills and learn to
keep pace with the Shabbat ser-
vice and the reading of the
Torah.
Hebrew Literacy instructors
are Adat Shalom members who
are proficient in Hebrew and
have had past teaching experi-
ence. Synagogue clergy will also
participate. There is a $20 ma-
terials fee for Adat Shalom mem-
bers and a $25 fee for
non-members.
A Kabbalat Shabbat service
and Oneg Shabbat honoring all
the participants is set for March
8.

Support Group
For Bereavement

Temple Israel will begin anoth-
er nine-week Bereavement Sup-
port group on Tuesdays, from
Jan. 30 through March 26, 7:30-
9:30 p.m. The group, which
meets at the Temple, will be led
by trained facilitators.
The Bereavement Support
Group is offered free of charge to
any member of the Jewish com-
munity who has suffered the
death of a loved one. To reg:

B'nai Israel
Tevet Tummel

Congregation Shaarey Zedek
B'nai Israel Center will have its
2nd annual Dec. 31 celebration.
"Tevet Tummel" will include all
evening of dinner, dancing, fun
and entertainment. The festivi-
ties will begin at 8:30 p.m.; the
cost is $50 per person.
This evening is being spon-
sored by the B'nai Israel Sister-

JPM Offers
Games, Dance

Fun and Games Day will be
Monday, Dec. 25, at 1 p.m. at the
Jimmy Prentis Morris Jewish
Community Center. Free pop-
corn and hot chocolate will ac-
company a variety of board

Ron Walker of Command Per-
formance will entertain at the
Pre-New Year's Dance on Thurs-
day, Dec. 28, at 1 p.m. Reserva-
tions are required. There is a

Caribbean
Party Planned

The Maple-Drake Jewish Com-
munity Center will host an "Es-
cape to the Caribbean" party on
Dec. 24, from 9 p.m. until 1 a.m.
Star Trax Corporate Events
will produce this event with food,
beverages, dancing to reggae mu-
sic by Joe Nab. Couples and sin-
gles, 21 and over, can wear
casual attire and enjoy a tropi-
cal evening out in the middle of
winter.
Tickets are $20 in advance
and $24 at the door. Advance
ticket purchasers are eligible to
win a "Fly Away" to a spot do-
nated by Gateway Travel.
Tickets are now on sale in the
Sports and Fitness Department
of the Jewish Community Center.
