Detroit River cruise, also spon-
sored by Federation. "We were
dancing and I asked her when I
could make her dinner," Marc re-
calls.
What a '90s kind of guy.
As for Federation, maybe it
should get out of the Jewish pro-
gramming and fund-raising biz
and try its "YAD" at profession-
al matchmaking (naturally, 58
percent of the proceeds will go to
Israel, and the remaining 42 per-
cent will support local wed-
dings).

Now It's Your Turn
Just a reminder: Federation's
Young Adult Division will hold
its monthly "Bar Nite" at Birm-
ingham's Old Woodward Grill on
Tuesday, Dec. 26, from 8 p.m. to
closing time. The word on the
street is: just come for fun and
shmooze-time with friends. But,
don't cancel out the possibility for
love and romance. It could hap-
pen to you (see: The Marc and
Amy story, above).

It's A Small World
Strange things happen when
your picture shows up in The De-
troit Jewish News. Just ask any-
one who has ever been so lucky.
Case in point: In November,
when the EYE SPY covered the
surprise 30th birthday party
Nathaniel Warshay tossed for
his wife, Ida, a reunion of sorts
took place.
Over the weekend, while Ida
was reading the wedding an-
nouncements, she exclaimed,
"Ruthie Corner got married!"
Somewhere nearby, Ruthie Cor-
ner's mother, Charlotte Cor-
ner, had breezed through the
engagements and weddings and
started reading the EYE SPY
(smart woman).
Spotting mention of
Nathaniel, Mrs. Corner picked
up the phone, dialed her
daughter's number and told
Ruthie to check out the EYE.
The twist is, Ruthie and
Nathaniel were girlfriend and
boyfriend in 1976, when she
was in sixth grade and he was
in seventh at the City School
of Detroit. At that age, they re-
ally didn't date — so to speak.
In fact, they didn't even kiss.
"We were only in junior
high. We just hung out," he
says. "She turned me on to the
Beach Boys."
Anyway. Ruthie and Ida also
had known each other through
their families' religious affilia-
tions. Typically, the Ruthie-
Nathaniel and Ruthie-Ida
connection lapsed as they grew
up and went their separate
ways.
A couple of weeks ago — as a
result of the ink they received in
The Jewish News, and of course,
due to the subsequent melange
of phone calls from people who

new husband, Harvey Hurwitz,
re-met and went out to dinner at
Pronto's in Royal Oak. The War-
shays' 8-month-old daughter,
Madeleine, joined them.
According to Nathaniel, the
pleasant connection is yet an-
other demonstration of that Dis-
neyland maxim: "It's a small,
small world."

Please Don't Call Me Vain
I'm changing my head shot.
Good-bye passport mug. Every-
one hates it. I never thought all
the positive remarks about my
column would be followed with
"But, Ruth, you really should find
another picture of yourself."
OK, guys. It's done. For all of
you who've been so honest, I send
out thanks for the candor. Dou-
ble merci to my co-workers
David Zeman and Julie
Edgar, who warned me about in-
. cluding "digits." In other words,
they said, avoid contemplative
