Bathing Safety For The Entire Family.

More than 5,000 children are scalded by hot water in the tub each year, according to the National
Safe Kids Campaign, prompting manufacturers to respond with several engineering breakthroughs.
One innovation from Grohe is Grohmix, a thermostatic valve for showers and tubs that allows you to
preset the temperature anywhere between 60 and 110 degrees. A safety stop set at 100 degrees pre-
vents children from accidentally scalding themselves.
The Grohmix also is a pressure
balancing valve, which prevents
temperature shocks from sudden
pressure changes in cold or hot
water. Whether a toilet is flushed
or dishwasher turned on, your
shower is never interrupted.
Almost all 50 states now
require that these types of safety
valves by used in all new con-
struction.

U.S Mutual Fund Sets
Its Sights On Israel

JULIE EDGAR STAFF WRITER

I

n an unusual partnership,
a nonprofit membership and
service organization has
teamed up with an investment
company to start the first open-
ended mutual fund to invest
primarily in the Israeli economy.
B'nai B'rith will provide con-
sulting and marketing assistance
to New England Funds, the
Boston-based distributor of the
Growth Fund of Israel, helping it
to reach the Jewish community.
B'nai B'rith counts 500,000 mem-
bers and affiliates in 55 countries,
including the United States.
Burton Lazarow, associate vice
president of B'nai B'rith, said the
organization's involvement with
New England Investment Com-
panies, L.P., the fund's sponsor,
began when the company offered
annuity funds to B'nai B'rith
members.
"That led to the offering of
mutual funds to our membership.
We then asked them to fund the
Growth Fund of Israel. The rea-
son B'nai B'rith promoted the
Israel fund had to do with the
messages we got from the State
of Israel, which suggested Israel
was looking for investment in Is-
rael and participation in economic
development. We looked around
and saw that no organization
seemed to be responding to
Israel's call for investment," Mr.
Lazarow said.
"We wouldn't support it if we
didn't believe it was good for Is-
rael," he added. "We see this as a
philosophical as well as econom-

ic commitment. Like any over-
seas market, it has its risks -
maybe Israel, more so in many
ways -but for people interested
in putting their money in invest-
ments, this presents a better op-
portunity than most."
B'nai B'rith will receive a por-
tion of sales commissions
amounting to about $100,000 an-
nually, he said.
The new fund, which will be ef-
fective Dec. 29, will invest at least
65 percent of its assets in equi-
ties that are issued in Israel or
derive most of their revenue in
Israel. tel Aviv-based Batucha
Securities, which has more than
$500 million of assets under man-
agement, will serve as the eco-
nomic and market sub-advisor
for the fund.
Adam Schor and David Herro,
of Chicago-based Harris Associ-
ates, will co-manage the Growth
Fund.
Lawrence Dwyer, New Eng-
land Funds' senior vice president
of corporate communications,
said money will be accepted from
investors in mid-January.
New England Funds are spon-
sored by New England Invest-
ment Companies, L.P., which has
approximately $75 million in as-
sets under management.
Investors may turn in their
Israel Bonds for shares of the
fund or buy directly.
There are more than 8,000
funds worldwide currently on the
market. ❑
