was the beloved wife of the late
Louis Friedenberg. She is sur-
vived by her son and daughter-

DR. SIGMUND GABE, 91,
former Detroiter of Palm
Desert, Calif., died Nov. 20. Dr.
Gabe served as a Captain in the
U.S. Army from 1942-45.
The first years of his medical
career were as a general practi-
tioner in Detroit. Following
World War II, he became a pro-
fessor at the University of
Southern California. He served
as president of the Psychoana-
lytic Institute and was very ac-
tive in the edcuation and train-
ing of psychoanalysts.

BARBARA LOIS GALENS,
49, of Far mington Hills, died
Dec. 2. Ms. Galens was active
with the Farmington Youth As-
sistance-Parenting Programs.

BENJAMIN KURTZMAN,
90, former Detroiter of Denver,
Colo., died Nov. 21. Mr. Kurtz-
man was a graduate of the De-
troit College of Law. He was a
food broker; partner in the P.F.
Pfeister Company in Detroit;
president of Kurtzman Sales
Company in Denver. Mr.
Kurtzman's affiliations includ-
ed being past president of the
Denver Association of Manu-
facturers' Representatives;
member of the board of direc-
tors of the Denver Jewish Com-
munity Center, which honored
him a Volunteer of the Year in
1986.
Mr. Kurtzman was preceded
in death by his wife Reeva Hor-
witz Kurtzman in 1983 and by
his wife Nathalie Sandler
Kurtzman in 1992. He is sur-
vived by his sons and daugh-
ters-in-law, Kenneth and Caryl
of San Francisco, Jeffrey and
Kathi of St. Louis, Mo., David
and Karen of South Lake
Tahoe, Calif.; grandchildren,
