The Laker Concert was first pre- sented in 1982 to an audience of about 60. Its popularity has gained over the years, as evidenced by the 1,800 people who attended last year's concert featuring Broadway entertainer Bruce Adler. "People wait for this event," said dentist Gerald Laker, who, along with his brothers Marty and Irving, decided to host a Chanukah concert 13 years ago to honor his parents, Harry and Sarah Laker. That evolved into the concert series. "My mother and dad have always been involved in Jewish communi- ty events. They felt those who are able to give to the community should, and my brothers and I have continued with this attitude. We're trying to do something for our corn- munity, and this is one of our ex- pressions," he said. Shaarey Zedek Cantor Chaim Najman was able to persuade the cast of That's Life to make South- field one of their tour stops. The re- vue features an original score by 12 critically acclaimed New York com- posers and lyricists.
