Dance All Night

Berkley High School sopho-
more Nathan Blume will be
dancing the title role in the Nut-
cracker Ballet with the Michi-
gan Classic Ballet Company and
the Birmingham-Bloomfield
Symphony Orchestra this week-
end.
Blume has been studying the
Russian Method of ballet at the
Geiger Classic Ballet Academy
for seven years and has attend-
ed summer programs at the
Boston Ballet Center for Dance
Education, the International
Ballet Seminar and the Hous-
ton Ballet Academy. He will at-
tend the Boshai Ballet Academy
in Vail,.Colo., in July 1996 on
a full scholarship, as one of only
20 dancers invited each sum-
mer.
Other dancers featured in the
Michigan Classic Ballet perfor-
mance are Arielle and Ariva
Berlin, Emily Blake, Gina and
Lauren DeSilva, Tovah Fein-
berg, Lauren Gooel, Kal Goren,
Alexis Lushia, Amanda and Re-
becca Schiller, and Joyce and
Lesley Serri.

The Nutcracker Ballet will
be performed at 3 p.m. on Sat-
urday and Sunday, Dec. 2 and
3, at West Bloomfield High

Family Musical

Everything's been "Really
Rosie" for pop songstress and
now musical theater composer
Carole King and award-winning
children's author and illustrator
Maurice Sendak. They've
teamed up with Sendak's The
Night Kitchen Theater Compa-
ny to present the family musical

Really Rosie is the musical brainchild of
Maurice Sendak and Carole King.

the Michigan Theater in Ann Ar-
bor.
King and Sendak first joined
forces in 1975 to produce an an-
imated TV program called Rosie.
Six years later, they created a
longer musical stage version
which was first performed off-
Broadway at the American Place
Theater. The family show will
make its Ann Arbor premiere at
the Michigan Theater.
Really Rosie is the musical sto-
ry of colorful Rosie and her black
and white world. With her ex-
pansive imagination and the-
atrics, Rosie enchants and
dominates the kids on the block
in her Brooklyn neighborhood. ❑
