Helen Kollin has been recerti-
fied by the American Association
of Diabetes Educators. The na-
tional examination must be
passed every five years in order
to maintain the certified diabetes
educator title and to ensure that
the current educational standards
are met.
Ms. Kollin received her bache-
lor of science degree in foods and
nutrition from Wayne State Uni-
versity. She earned her master of
science degree from the Univer-
sity of Detroit, Mercy.
Registered with the American
Dietetic Association, Ms. Kollin
works part time managing the
outpatient diabetes program at
Oakland General Hospital and
part time at her private counsel-
ing practice in Farmington Hills.

Clara Bell Reynolds of Sterling
Heights, director of nursing for
the Prentis Manor Jewish Home
for Aged, this fall received the
Nightingale Award for long-term
care practice from the Board of
Visitors of the Oakland Univer-
sity School of Nursing.
Ms. Reynolds, a registered
nurse, has practiced nursing for
49 years. She has come out of re-
tirement three times to work in
long-term facilities.

Lawrence Pernick has been
named chair for the HIV/AIDS
subcommittee of the National As-
sociation of Counties' (NACo)
Health Steering Committee by
NACo President Douglas Bovin.
NACo's 13 steering committees
form the policy-making arm of the
association. Each committee is
comprised of approximately 50 to
60 county officials who meet sev-
eral times during the year to ex-
amine issues critical to local
government. Mr. Pernick repre-
sents Southfield on the Oakland
County Board of Commissioners.
The Health Steering Commit-
tee focuses on health-care deliv-
ery and financing, including
indigent care, health care for the
uninsured, Medicaid, Medicare,
long-term care, local public-health
programs, mental health, sub-
stance abuse, mental retardation
and developmental disabilities.

Dr. Jack Litwin, an internist
with a sub-specialty in diabetes,
has joined the Royal Oak medical
practice of Dr. William.Sills. Dr.
Litwin has practiced medicine in

the Greater Detroit area for more
than 30 years.

Dr. E. Albert Tzeel

Dr. E. Albert Tzeel has been ap-
pointed medical director of the
Providence Children's Medical
Group in Novi. Dr. Tzeel, a 1986
graduate of the University of
Michigan Medical School's Inte-
flex program, has been in prac-
tice in Phoenix and Farmington
Hills He is on staff at Providence
and William Beaumont hospitals.

Michigan Hospital. Dr. Katz re-
ceived her medical degree from
Northwestern University Med-
ical School in Chicago and her
bachelor of science degree from
the University of Michigan.

Sinai Hospital internists Dr.
Gerald Loomus and Dr. Bur-
ton Weintraub have relocated
their practice to West 12 Mile in
Southfield. They join internists
Dr. Hershel Sandberg and
Eric Lerman. All physicians are
part of Sinai's ambulatory ser-
vices division, which is combin-
ing locations to provide consistent
and comprehensive services from
each location.
Dr. Loomus, a resident of
Farmington Hills, is a fellow of
the American College of Physi-
cians and the American Society
of Clinical Oncology. He is a diplo-
mat of the American Board of In-
ternal Medicine and
board-certified in medical oncol-
ogy.
Dr. Weintraub, a resident of
West Bloomfield, is a member of
the American Medical Society,
the Michigan State Medical So-
ciety and the Wayne County
Medical Society. He served a res-
idency in internal medicine at
Sinai Hospital and received his
medical degree from Wayne State
University.

Dr. Norman Levine, chief of
dermatology at the University of
Arizona's Health Science Center,
has a self-help book out to save
you a trip to the dermatologist.
His book is titled Skin Healthy,
Everyone's Guide to Great Skin.
Dr. Levine, a former Detroiter, is
the son of Ann Levine and the
late Morris Levine.

Dr. Laurie Sabin Katz

Dr. Laurie Sabin Katz has
joined the ambulatory services di-
vision of Sinai Hospital. Dr. Katz,
a specialist in internal medicine,
will join internists Dr. Lisa El-
conin, Dr. Amy Goldfaden and
Dr. Genise Kerner in their prac-
tice in West Bloomfield.
Dr. Katz, a resident of Ann Ar-
bor, is a member of the American
Medical Society and the Ameri-
can College of Physicians. She re-
cently completed a fellowship in

Dr. Bruce Gans, president of
the Rehabilitation Institute of
Michigan, has received the Brent
England Award for Excellence in
Rehabilitation Management. Dr.
Gans received his award from the
governing council of the Ameri-
can Hospital Association Section
for Rehabilitation Hospitals and
Programs at the 1995 RehabAl-
liance conference in Phoenix this
fall.
For almost 25 years, Dr. Gans
has developed outstanding pro-
grams in residency training and
recruitment, both in Boston at
the Tufts University School of
