Varied Offerings At Book Fair The Seventh Annual JCC Jew- ish Book Fair will be held Sat- urday and Sunday, Dec. 9 and 10, at the Jewish Community Center of Washtenaw County. Hundreds of book titles will be on sale including recent releas- es, cookbooks, beautiful gift books, academic titles, Haggadot, books by local authors, and a wide assortment of children's books and Chanukah gift items. The fair also is a celebration, complete with speakers, re- freshments and entertainment and crafts for children. This year,the JCC Jewish Book Fair will begin at 8 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 9, with Rabbi Sherwin T. Wine, of Detroit's Birmingham Temple, speaking about his new book, Judaism Be- yond God, followed by a wine and cheese reception and the com- mencement of book sales. The fair will continue on Sun- day, Dec. 10, beginning at 9 a.m. with free bagels, coffee and time to browse. Rabbi Avraham Ja- cobowitz, founder and director of Machon L'Torah in Oak Park, will speak at 10 a.m. on the Jew- ish classic The River, the Kettle and the Bird by Rabbi Aharon Feldman. Pre-school entertainment will be presented from 11 a.m. to noon, followed by craft activities. Sto- ryteller Joanne Ladd, also known as Mother Goose, will tell stories using finger play, picture cards and exercise games. Ms. Ladd car- ries a life-sized goose puppet and is dressed as the legendary spin- ner of nursery rhymes. Crafts ,vi.11 be taught by member of Teen Connection, the JCC group for middle school children, organized in cooperation with BBYO. Bette Roth Young, author of the newly-released Emma Lazarus in Her World, will speak at 1 p.m. Her book is a biography and selected letters of the famous 19th century Jewish poetess who wrote the poem that is inscribed in a bronze tablet inside the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty in New York City's harbor. School-age children and their parents are invited to a presen- tation at 2 p.m. by local author Joan Blos reading from her new book for children, grades 3 to 6, Brooklyn Doesn't Rhyme. After- wards, there will be more craft activities for children. The book fair will end at 4 p.m. The JCC Jewish Book Fair is free and open to the public.
