Parsha
Project

The coming week's Torah
portion, Genesis 25:19-28:9,
is Toledot.
Rivka gives birth to twins,
Eysav and Yaacov. Eysav
grows up to become a trapper
and hunter. Yaacov is schol-
arly, and remained indoors.
One day, Eysav, famished
from hunting, approaches
Yaacov in the midst of cook-
ing a stew. He agrees to give
Yaacov his rights as the first-
born son in exchange for a
bowl of the food. A few years
later, Yitzhak, old and nearly
blind, calls for Eysav to pre-
pared him a meal of fresh
game. While Eysav goes out
to hunt, Yaacov comes in, dis-
guised as Eysav, and receives
Yitzhak's blessing. Eysav re-
turns and is furious when he
learns of Yaacov's ruse. Eysav
vows to kill his brother, but
Yaacov escapes, going to his
mother's relatives.
For a project: The Torah
states that Eysav had a great
deal of body hair, whereas
Yaacov's skin was normal. In
fact, Yaacov was able to im-
personate Eysav by wearing a
goat skin on his hands.
Make a model of Eysav's
hands. You will need con-
struction paper, glue or paste,
and yarn. Trace the outline of
your hands on a piece of con-
struction paper. Spread the
glue or paste in the outline.
Cut pieces of yarn and put
them down on the glue.
