"I understand that Mr. Rabin
was trying to make peace," Dana
Isenstein wrote in neat cursive.
"I hope that nothing like this ever
happens again."
Others were disheartened by
the apparent gunman.
"I think that man should go to
jail that was so bad of him!" de-
clared Hana Leah Greenberg.
Jason Zeldes wrote: "It's hard
to belive a jew killed him. But out
of the darkness comes great
memories."
Being 8-year-olds, some kids
declined to play the angst card.
"I hope this picture will cheer
you up," chirped Todd Cherkin-
sky of the perky smiley face
scrawled in a note to Mrs. Rabin.
"And I hope you have better days
then that." ❑

Ariel Margalith, 15, of Jerusalem,
was mortified over the news of
Yitzhak Rabin's death.
Until now, Israeli teens were
immune to the domestic political
violence that would cause an Is-
raeli Jew to kill another Jew.
"It's like he is still alive," Ariel
said. "I admired that man so
much and now he is gone."
In the hours and days follow-
ing Yitzhak Rabin's death, Ariel
has relied on support and comfort
from his friends throughout the
Middle East. He met many of
them through his participation in
a program called Seeds of Peace.
Seeds of Peace is an American
program embraced by Mr. Rabin
for bringing Jewish and Arab
teens from the Middle East to-
gether to the United States to
build on peace.
Mr. Rabin once told John Wal-
lach, president and founder of
Seeds of Peace, that his grand-
children wanted the Seeds of
Peace T-shirt given to Mr. Rabin.
The prime minister refused to
give it up because of his strong be-
lief in the program.
