Heroes Of Zionism
Will Be Honored

The elder heroes of Zionism will be honored at
the Zionists of the Year luncheon Sunday, Nov.
26, at Adat Shalom Synagogue. The 11 a.m. event
will honor four vatikim—Esteemed Veterans of
the Zionist Movement, who helped make the
2,000-year-old dream of a Jewish state come true
in 1948.
During the program, graduates from Project
Otzma, a year-long service program in Israel spon-
sored by the Jewish Federation and the Israel
Forum, will present the vatikim: Harmon Bayer
of Parents of North American Israelis; Henry Fai-
gin of Labor Zionist Alliance; Steve Goldin of Harmon Bayer
Jabotinsky Society of Herut USA; and Judge Ira
Kaufman of Adat Shalom. The day also will fea-
ture Gad Ben-An, chairman of the World Zionist Organization and Jewish
Agency for Israel delegation to the United States.
Mr. Bayer is an executive committee member of the AZM and helped cre-
ate a program of emergency assistance to olim who came from Detroit.
Mr. Faigin has been very active in the Labor Zionist Movement, serving as
president of its Council of Metropolitan Detroit and as its representative on
the AZM board.
Steve Goldin served as an Irgun operative and helped guide Jewish refugees
from Poland to Italy. He also organized the Betar youth and Herut movements locally and represented
Detroit in several national and international congresses.
Judge Kaufman is the founding secretary of the Midrasha College of Hebrew Studies and has served
as a board member of the Jewish National Fund, vice president of the United Hebrew Schools, past pres-
ident of the Detroit Zionist Organization and honorary president of B'nai B'rith Tikvah Lodge. He was
the first Jewish judge in the Wayne County Probate and Juvenile Court.

"Midrash: The Process of Making the Bible Come Alive".
He will conclude his visit with an address to congre-
gation at 11 a.m. Shabbat services on the topic "Sibling
Rivalry: A Fascinating Response to to Perennial Prob-
lem."
