original screenplay.
His first script, The Bodyguard
was written on the Kasdans'
kitchen table in Pointe '0 Woods
Apartments in Southfield. hi two
years, Mr. Kasdan received 67 re-
jections for the screenplay, a film
that would finally be produced in
1992 starring Kevin Costner and
Whitney Houston. The film
grossed more than $400 million.
On Monday, when asked
about his religious beliefs, Mr.
Kasdan said, "I consider myself
a Humanist. I believe there's

good in people as well as bad.
There's a collective force among
people that we're not always
aware of. I tried to deal with that
in The Accidental Tourist, Wyatt
Earp and Grand Canyon.
"Any project that I'm involved
in will have some Jewish content
in it because I'm Jewish. My mar-
riage was the time I felt the most
Jewish — in this temple. I con-
skier myself a Jew all the time."
Rabbi Wine described Mr. Kas-
dan as the "Humanist in Holly-
wood." "He's an idealist He was
that then, and he is that now.
He'd make an extraordinary Hu-
