Huntington Woods and Walled Lake may be in the
same vicinity, but proximity doesn't really matter
when it comes to politics.
Aside from taxes, anti-incumbency sentiments from challengers and other typ-
ical election issues, each municipality faces its own set of challenges.
Candidates in these six cities are vying to win the support of their respective
electorates on election day — Nov. 7.
While Birmingham candidates talk about sustaining their downtown shopping
district, Farmington Hills hopefuls discuss ways to solve traffic problems in their

The Jewish News asked the candidates to provide information (100 words or
less for each response) about their background and reasons for running. Candi-
dates were also asked to highlight some key issues in their city and discuss how
they would address them.

In addition to council elections, residents in Farmington Hills are being asked
to vote on two charter amendments. The first asks for an additional tax of no more
than one mill for additional fire and police staffing, equipment and construction
and operation of a central fire station. The other proposal asks voters to decide if
