WJBK-TV 2 News Di-
rector Mort Meisner
will discuss "News cov-
erage: How the Deci-
sions Are Made," and
Rabbi David Nelson will
conduct a special Sin-
gles Shabbat program at 8:30 p.m., Nov. 17, at
Congregation Beth Shalom.
An Oak Park native, Mr. Meisner came to
WJBK-TV 2 from st. Louis, where he was assis-
tant news director for three years. Prior to that
he worked in various capacities for television sta-
tions in Chicago.
Participating congregations in the Singles Shab-
bat program include: Adat Shalom, Beth Abra-
ham Hillel Moses, Beth Achim, Beth El, Beth
Shalom, B'nai Moshe, Emanu-El, Israel, Kol Ami,
Shaarey Zedek, Shir Tikvah and Shir Shalom.
The program is sponsored by the Michigan
Board of Rabbis in cooperation with The Jewish
News. The program is made possible by a grant
from the Max M.Fisher Jewish Community Foun-
dation of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan
Detroit.

Down Levin
Will Speak
Doron Levin, author, speaker, and financial writer for the De-
troit Free Press will head Birmingham Temple's second Encounter,
an all-day cultural event on Wednesday, Nov. 15.
Mr. Levin has authored two books. Born in Israel, he arrived
in the United States from South Africa in 1954. He has earned
degrees in history and journalism, worked as a reporter and and
bureau chief at the New York Times.
Mr. Levin will discuss his areas of expertise, his books, his his-
tory and experiences and respond to questions from the En-
counters group. The program is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2:30
p.m.
The $25 registration fee also includes breakfast and lunch.

The Hermelin family has endowed a curator of Judaica position at the University
of Michigan Libraries in honor of their father, 98-year-old Irving Hermelin.
Shown at the dedication ceremonies with Mr. Hermelin are his daughter,
Henrietta Weinberg and daughter-in-law and son, Doreen and David Hermelin.
