Mr. Davidson hopes his Chal-
lenge Fund will strengthen local
Jewish agencies and broaden the
base of Campaign givers by pro-
viding them with an extra in-
centive to contribute.
"His fund makes everybody's
new gift or increase worth twice
as much to the community," says
Penny Blumenstein, Campaign
co-chair with Robert Slatkin.
Mr. Davidson announced his
Challenge Fund at Federation's
annual Fisher Meeting, held Oct.
12 at the Franklin home of Max
M. Fisher.
To create the Challenge Fund,
Mr. Davidson has given
$500,000 above his regular Cam-
paign pledge. Increases and new
gifts will be matched until the
$500,000 is depleted.
With the combined $1 million
that should result from this fund,
the Jewish Federation of Metro-
politan Detroit hopes to reach its
Campaign goal of $27.8 million
by wrap-up time in March.
That's a million more than last
year's total.
Ms. Blumenstein and Mr.
Slatkin also hope to beef up the
donor list from 16,500 to 17,000
with 500 new givers.
To date, the Campaign has
raised almost $12 million from
4,050 contributors. El
