Come learn about our exciting programs,

You could lose things
like extra weight. High
blood pressure. And high
blood cholesterol levels.
The very things that con-
tribute to heart attack and
stroke.
All you have to do is in-
vest wisely at the super-
market.
Buy more in the fresh
produce, pasta, breads
and cereals sections. And
purchase fish, poultry and
lean meats instead of fatty
or processed meats.
Switch to low-fat dairy
products and margarine.
And check the nutritional
listings on food labels.
In short, be selective
about how you play this
market. Because no mat- -
ter how much you lose,
you've got a lot to win.

Mob Mentality Takes
Violent Upper Hand

The Knesset's rhetoric has led to fighting in the
streets and charges of facism.

LARRY DERFNER ISRAEL CORRESPONDENT

T

he campaign for the Octo-
ber 1996 elections hasn't
even started yet and al-
ready Prime Minister Ra-
bin and some of his ministers are
getting beefed-up protection from
the Shin Bet and police. The
right-wing's anti-government
protests have gone up a notch in
violence and disruptiveness over
the past couple of weeks, giving
rise to worries that the Israeli
"street" may become engulfed in
fury as the army pull-out from
the West Bank advances and the
election looms nearer.
On the night of the Knesset's
passage of the Oslo II Accord,
thousands of protesters gathered
outside the Knesset, and a few
broke through police lines and
jumped up and down on Mr. Ra-
bin's car.
One Kach member was ar-
rested when he ripped off the ve-
hicle's hood ornament; police said
he told them, "If we can get to the
ornament [on Rabin's car], we can
get to Rabin." A few posters at the
demonstration showed Mr. Ra-
bin in an SS uniform.
Protesters also threw stones at
the car of Housing Minister
Binyamin Ben-Eliezer. A few peo-
ple in the crowd tried to reach
into the car and attack Mr. Ben-
Eliezer, but he got out of there
unharmed.
Some days later, when Mr. Ra-
bin appeared at "The Event," a
festival for immigrants from the
United States and other English-
speaking countries, he was shout-
ed down for about 10 minutes by
hundreds of people in the crowd.
One man rushed at Mr. Rabin,
and the prime minister's body-
guards wrestled him away.

During the "Salute to
Jerusalem" parade, I ,ikud Knes-
set Member Tsachi Hanegbi com-
mandeered a sound system and
drowned out the proceedings with
a harangue of Mr. Rabin as the
prime minister sat among digni-
taries. Mr. Hanegbi's tirade went
on for five minutes until police
pulled the plug on him.
Until now, the right-wing's
protests have been marked by
verbal violence against the gov-
ernment, as many in the crowds
have chanted, `Rabin is a traitor,"
and, "Rabin is a murderer."
Leaders of the right always
condemned these attacks, and
they condemned the physical at-
tacks on Mr. Rabin and Mr. Ben-
Eliezer. Despite these
disclaimers, the climate of vio-
lence at anti-government demon-
strators grows hotter.
Mr. Rabin says he is unfazed.
"I am not afraid personally," he
said. "I will not run away and
they will not silence me." He
blamed the Likud for creating an
atmosphere that made such vi-
olence inevitable.
"Lithe Likud] cannot wash its
hands of this and claim it has
nothing to do with it," the prime
minister maintained. "The Likud
spews such extreme language,
the likes of which has not been
heard for a very long time. It's
enough to hear the sort of speech-
es its leaders deliver in the Knes-
set, and the rhetoric they utter in
rallies and meetings ... to know
who is behind what is happen-
ing!,
Histadrut union leader Haim
Ramon and rebel Labor figure
added, "The problem is not the
various little hoodlums who do
