To Be Persuaded
p
ersuasion, a British film based on
Jane Austen's final novel, is the sto-
ry of a young woman who breaks
off her engagement because her fi-
ancé has no money. Years later, the two un-
expectedly meet. But now, the young man is
wealthy and successful. This story, set in 1814,
offers an ironic and perceptive look at mar-
riage, loneliness and regret.
Persuasion stars Amanda Root, Corin Red-
grave and Fiona Shaw.
The Detroit Film Theatre shows the movie
a total of six times this weekend.
