Peace Pole Is Presented On Oct. 24, at 6 p.m., p.m. members of Congregation Shir and representatives from the city of Pontiac will gather outside Pon- tiac City Hall for the presenta- tion of a Peace Pole to the city of Pontiac. This Peace Pole will continue a tradition which began when Shir Tikvah presented Peace Poles to Plymouth Congrega- tional Church in Detroit and to the city of Troy. The project was started in 1955 and dedicated to uplifting humankind toward har- mony rather than conflict. Peace Poles can now be found in over 80 countries around the world. The Peace Pole for Pontiac is inscribed with the words "May Peace Prevail On Earth" in eight languages, two per side. The lan- guages selected are: Hebrew, English, Japanese, Arabic, Ot- tawa, Swahili, Hmong and Span- ish. The ceremony will include re- marks by Pontiac city officials, the rabbi and president of Con- gregation Shir Tikvah. In addi- tion representatives of the groups honored by the languages on the pole will participate. Pontiac City Hall is located east of Wide Track Drive on Pike Street in Pontiac.
