Last year, West Bloomfield High School won the Oakland Ac- tivities Association league cham- pionships in both dual meets (with a record of 10-0) and the league finals. Raben's best time in the 100- yard freestyle is 1:04; her best time in the 50 is :28. Raben likes the freestyle better than the breaststroke because "freestyle is faster and the sprint races are more exciting and intense." The West Bloomfield Lakers sponsored a swimming invita- tional at the end of last month. They took first place by beating six other teams from around the state. Raben anchored the winning 200-yard medley relay, and led off the winning 400-yard freestyle relay. Sweet recov- ered an on-side kick to give his team the ball and a chance to score and win. Harrison, however, did not score. Sweet also plays varsity base- ball for Harrison. Last year, he was starting catcher, when the team won districts and the league championship with an overall record of 20-7. This coming season, Sweet ex- pects to play outfield and pitch.
