Pistons Tip Off For Pre-Season Opener
at the Palace, Pis-
tons fans can get their
first
fir st look at head coach
Doug Collins and forward
Otis Thorpe, two of the
team's newest acquisitions.
The 7:30 p.m. game
against the Philadelphia
76ers is the first of several
pre-season games sched-
uled this month before the
Nov. 3 home opener.
After several losing sea-
sons, the Pistons organiza-
tion and fans are hoping
Collins, a former Chicago
Bulls coach and NBA ana-
lyst for Turner Broadcast-
ing, can lead the team to a
winning season.
Fans will also be keeping
a watchful eye on Thorpe,
acquired in the off-season
from the Portland Trail
Blazers for the rights to
Randolph Childress and
Bill Curley.
Who knows? Philadel-
phia, the team that ended
last year with one of the
worst records in basketball,
may be an easy game for
Collins and Thorpe to put in
the win column.
Waiting for the season
to open: Grant Hill and
Michael Jordan.
