Applications are being accept-
ed from college students inter-
ested in applying for interest-free
loans through the Jewish Edu-
cational Loan Service (JELS).
Administered through Jewish
Vocational Service (JVS), Hebrew
Free Loan Association, the pro-
gram is available to metro Detroit
area Jewish residents. To be con-
sidered, applicants must be full-
time students pursuing an
undergraduate, graduate, or pro-
fessional education; be able to doc-
ument financial need, attend a
Michigan educational institution
unless a comparable education is
not available in Michigan, and
demonstrate academic progress
toward a career objective.
JELS is funded through a
partnership of more than 70 pri-
vate funds and philanthropic ser-
vice organizations.
ELS applications will be ac-
cepted through Nov. 15. For in-

Evergreen. All young adults

HMD's 3rd Annual Hayride-
Bonfire with Israeli Dancing is

The Progressive Zionist Caucus

The MSU Hinds Reform Chavu-
rah will host its 2nd Annual
Hayride to the Stars on Satur-
day, Oct. 14.
Every Friday night the MSU
Hillel provides a Shabbat Din-
ner at 7 p.m. The cost is $6. The
Graduate & Professionals'
group will be horseback riding
on Sunday, Oct. 15, at 3 p.m.

At The JPM

The Jimmy Prentis Morris Jew-
ish Community Center will pre-
sent Meet The Nurse on the
fourth Monday of every month.
Sharon Tomaszewski from the
Oakland County Public Health
Department will facilitate a dis-
cussion on how to be a healthy
senior in the 90s. This program
is free of charge.
The Glassman Fall Celebra-
tion will be held on Thursday,
Oct. 19, at 1 p.m. This event is
limited to JCC members only
and is free of charge. Get tickets
in advance by showing a mem-
bership card at the JPM desk.
The Sam Barnett Orchestra will
entertain and will be followed by

Book Bites
Discussion Series

The Cultural Commission of
Congregation Beth Achim will
host a Book Bites discussion se-
ries. The first session will take
place on Tuesday, Oct. 24, at 7:30
p.m. at the home of Joyce Sher-
man.
The book to be discussed is ti-
tled Nightfather by Carl Fried-
man. The reviewer will be Rabbi
Herbert Yoskowitz.
There is no charge for this se-
ries. Dessert will be served. To
attend, respond to the synagogue

cussed in this series are avail-
able at the synagogue's library
and at local bookstores.
