ANGELS ON EARTH

Thanks to Helen Zucker-
man of Franklin, cancer re-
search is thriving in Detroit.
The Michigan Cancer Founda-
tion Angels were founded by He-
len and her husband Paul in
1985. Although Paul died short-
ly after the first gala event, He-
len continues to host the yearly
event, which has raised more
than $1.9 million.
Laura Munder, Susan Ro-
gel, Lila Silverman and Lin-
da Taubman are some
members of the honorary com-
mittee. The 1995 gala to bene-
fit the Karmanos Cancer
Institute will be held 7 p.m. Sat-
urday, Oct. 14, at the Ritz Carl-
ton. For ticket information, call
(313) 833-0715.

gourmet's delight. Rona Freed-
land and Brenda Pangborn
attended the luncheon and have
their recipes included in the
book. Suzanna Mitchell's pis-
tachio white-chocolate chip cook-
ie recipe was a winner. A
portion of the proceeds from the
book will be donated to Literacy
Volunteers of America-Detroit
Chapter. No Jacket Required is
available at Neiman Marcus and
