Policy Officials
Attend Meeting

The American Jewish Commit-
tee, Detroit Chapter, will host of-
ficials of the Mackinac Center for
Public Policy at its upcoming
open board meeting, 7:30 p.m.,
Oct. 19, at the Max M. Fisher
Building.
Mr. Lawrence Reed and oth-
er staff members of the Midland
based conservative think tank
will speak about their research
and range of influence in Lans-
ing today.
This program is one of a series
examining the forces that shape
the current political climate in
Lansing. There is no charge and
the meeting is open to the Jew-
ish community.

Travel Carnival
At Beth El

The first annual Travel Carni-
val sponsored by the Brother-
hood of Temple Beth El will be
Sunday, Oct. 29, at 11:30 a.m.
Admission is free; travel en-
thusiasts will enjoy a compli-
mentary light breakfast prior to
the program. Featured speakers
are storyteller, Corinne Stavish;
Holland America Westours rep-
resentative, Jim Gorman, who
will detail what cruises are all
about. Purchasers of $25 raffle
tickets will be eligible to win the
10-day cruise for two and other
prizes. Ticket holders need not
be present to win.
Proceeds from the event will
benefit brotherhood's many tem-
ple and community projects. For

Host Events

The Brotherhood, Sisterhood and
Married Group of Temple Beth
El will host "Come to the
Cabaret," featuring dinner and
music by Ursula Walker and the
Buddy Budson Band, on Satur-
day, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m. at the tem-
ple. Cost of the event is $35 per
person. Reservations may be
made by making checks payable
to and mailing to Temple Beth
El, 7400 Telegraph Road, Bloom-
field Hills, MI 48301, Attn: Mar-
ried Group.
On Sunday morning, Oct. 22,
the affiliates will host the first of
four Sunday speaker programs;
bagels and coffee at 9:30 a.m. will
be followed by an inside view of
the zoo with Ron Kagan, direc-
tor of the Detroit Zoological
Parks. The program is open to
the community without charge.
