Jerusalem (JTA) — Israeli com-
panies have said they plan to cre-
ate a high-tech industrial park
near Beijing, another sign of
growing trade relations between
the Jewish state and China.
Yi Wu, China's minister of for-
eign trade and economic cooper-
ation, announced the project this
week at a joint news conference
here with Michael Harish, Is-
rael's trade and industry minis-
ter.
The Chinese minister said the
park would be located next to an
existing Motorola plant outside
the capital.
The park will include Israeli
firms such as Elscint as well as
its parent company, Elbit, which
is involved in both defense and
civilian projects.
Israel and China established
diplomatic and economic ties
three years ago.
Bilateral trade between the
two countries totaled $200 mil-
lion last year.

Belgium Refuses
To Grant Visa

Brussels (JTA) — Belgium has
refused to grant an entry visa to
Russian ultranationalist
Vladimir Zhirinovsky because he
poses a "possible danger for pub-
lic order," an Interior Ministry
spokesman said.
Mr. Zhirinovsky, the leader of
the Russian Liberal-Democratic
Party, and his Russian delega-
tion had been invited by the Eu-
ropean Union to take part in a
two-day meeting.
He was to address the Euro-
pean Parliament, the legislative
arm of the European Union.
Constanza Krehl, a German
Socialist member of the Euro-
pean Parliament, said she had
asked for a visa for Mr. Zhiri-
novsky to discuss with him such
topics as Chechnya, European se-
curity, Bosnia and E.U.-Russian
cooperation.
In a recent debate on Bosnia
in the Russian Parliament,
Mr.Zhirinovsky was involved in
a brawl with a female colleague.
Tast year, he threw plants and
spat at Jewish protesters after a
meeting with European law-
makers in Strasbourg, France.
Mr. Zhirinovsky has also
blamed Jews for pushing Rus-
sians out of the former Soviet re-
publics.
Pauline Green, chairwoman of
the European Socialist group,
said she did not agree with the
Belgian decision.
