died Sept. 24. Mr. Zak was the
loving father of the late Jacque-
line Zak. He is survived by his
daughter and son-in-law, Linda
and Bob Houston of Commerce
Township; brother and sister-
in-law, Bennie and Doris Zak of
West Bloomfield; sister and
brother-in-law, Sarah and
David Score of Pleasant Hill,
Calif.; grandchildren, Sean and
Ryan Houston, Shane Zak.

vices and interment were held
at Hebrew Memorial Park
Cemetery. Arrangements

Jerusalem — The Israeli econo-
my continued expanding in the
second quarter due to a signifi-
cant surge in local trade and in-
creased industrial and
construction activity, according
to the Bank of Israel's quarter-
ly survey.
Industrial firms recorded con-
tinued growth in their activities
and sales compared with the first
quarter, based on increased ex-
ports and, to a lesser extent, lo-
cal sales. However, the firms
reported export orders remained
unchanged.
The rise in activity was con-
centrated particularly in the
large to medium-sized firms,
while small companies reported
a significant drop in activity.
The chemicals, plastics, met-
al and machinery sectors regis-
tered a large jump in exports,
and local sales took of after be-
ing stagnant in the first quarter.
Production took off in the min-
ing, quarrying, construction and
wood products sectors, reflecting
expanded construction activity.
