Dr. Jack Belen has been ap-
pointed assistant professor of in-
ternal medicine at Wayne State
University School of Medicine. Dr.
Belen, a pulmonary and critical-
care specialist, is completing his
third term as chief of staff of
Huron Valley Hospital, part of the
Detroit Medical Center.
Dr. Belen received his under-
graduate degree from Wayne
State University and graduated
from the Chicago College of Os-
teopathic Medicine. He complet-
ed his internship and residency in
internal medicine at Botsford
General Hospital and received
specialized post-graduate educa-
tion as a pulmonary fellow at the
University of Michigan Affiliated
Hospitals. He serves on the board
of directors of the American Lung
Association of Southeastern
Michigan.

Dr. Steven Shanbom has joined
the practice of Isaacson and Giles
P.C. in Southfield. Dr. Shanbom
recently completed his residency
in ophthalmology at Sinai Hospi-
tal in Detroit where he also com-
pleted a residency in internal
medicine. He is the recipient of the
H. Saul Sugar award for the oph-
thalmology resident most dedi-
cated to education. Dr. Shanbom
also is a graduate of Michigan
State University Medical School.

partner in the Detroit law firm of
Honigman Miller Schwartz and
Cohn.
A 1967 graduate of Harvard
Law School, Mr. Toll has been on
the board of the American Red
Cross for 10 years. He is an au-
thor and lecturer on topics rele-
vant to commercial and business
law. He is listed in the 1995-96
editions of Best Lawyers in Amer-
ica and Who's Who in America.

Nancy Reinheimer Kaufman,
director of the Kaufman Chil-
dren's Center for Speech and Lan-
guage Disorders Inc., has recently
published the Kaufman Speech
Praxis Test For Children through
Wayne State University Press.
This test is a diagnostic instru-
ment used to evaluate and treat
children who are unable to speak
or have unintelligible speech. Ms.
Kaufman, who specializes in chil-
dren's speech difficulties, conducts
local and national presentations
on the subject.

Dr. Polina Benkenslitadt, a <
specialist in internal medicine, has
joined the ambulatory services di-
vision of Sinai Hospital. Dr.
Benkenshtadt will join Dr. Arthur
Powell and Dr. Herbert Rossin in
their practice in Bingham Farms.
Dr. Benkenshtadt, a resident
of Oak Park, recently completed
her residency in internal medicine
at Sinai Hospital. She has more
than 10 years of experience as an
internist prior to coming to the
United States. ❑
