Back in 1974, Sam Lochriccio,
now owner of Arriva, took a page
out of an age-old tradition in Eng-
land by promoting a like event at
the former Latin Quarter on East
Grand Blvd. ... The black-tie Pre-
mier Ring Sporting Club evening
featured boxing and comedy by
Shecky.
It was a whopper of an evening
as a sellout crowd of 620 watched
a card that had 13-year-old Tom-
my Hearns ... and a very funny
and energetically talented
Shecky Greene.
While with his brother, Tony,
and the Tartans in the Riviera
Lounge, Sam worked with
Shecky, who was Las Vegas' con-
summate headliner ... Following
many of his shows, Shecky would
come into the lounge and perform
with Sam.
-When he was at the Riviera,
Shecky's late shows were usual-
ly filled with other strip enter-
tainers who loved to see the
comedian's comedian ... singing,
telling stories, improvising songs
as he went along, and tailoring
each performance to his audi-
ence.
Believe me, folks, Shecky
Greene tickets will go fast.
