Jerusalem (JTA) — The World Health Organization convened its annual European session in Jerusalem, the first time such a gathering has taken place in Israel. Representatives from some 50 countries, including Israel, at- tended the Sept. 18-23 conference to discuss world health issues. Nazi Artfacts Rile Israelis Jerusalem (JTA) — A Tel Aviv auction house has once again caused a public outcry over its planned sale of Nazi memor- abilia. Knesset Speaker Shevach Weiss and Chief Ashkenazi Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau de- nounced the plans of Menashe Maridek, owner of Zodiac Stamps, to sell items from the Nazi. era. Israel Radio reported that em- blems and insignia worn by the Nazi SS appeared in Zodiac Stamps' catalogue for a public sale scheduled to take place in October. Five months ago, the auction house caused a stir over its plans to sell artifacts from the Nazi death camps, including a bar of soap allegedly made from human fat. The sale was canceled in the wake of public pressure. Kosher Eatery Closes In Amman Jerusalem (JTA) — The Israeli- Jordanian peace treaty signed last October has not borne fruit for at least one Jordanian. - The first and only kosher restaurant in Amman has closed its doors and will soon reopen with a non-kosher menu devoted to Lebanese food. The owner of the Istanbul Restaurant, Khaled Mohammed Al- Hindi, blamed the failure of his venture into kosher food on his Israeli partners, local hostil- ity and a lack of customers. Though Israeli tourists have flooded Jordan since the two . countries signed their historic peace treaty, Hindi said the 110- seat restaurant was nearly emp- ty since opening in June. He reportedly lost up to $14,000 in the enterprise, and ac- cused his three Israeli partners of not living up to their side of the bargain. One of the Israelis, Pinchas Sela, countered by denying that the partners had not paid their financial obligations. ` HIritEl.11.-f S ICOASIR THE DE TRO I T J EWISH NEWS Specializing In Driveability, Air Conditioning & Fuel Injection 78 Auto Care We Can Diagnose Anything • Fleet Accounts Available We Accept Most Competitor's Coupons 810-553-2622 12 Mlle & Orchard Lake Road Sam's Detail Shop "The Ultimate in Automotive Appearance Care" (810) 855-5600 • Automotive Cleaning • Customizing • Pre Sale Preparations • Pick-up and Delivery • Bonded and Insured • Accessory Sales & Installation 32671 Northwestern Hwy. • Bet.
