The generals will devote most of their time to explaining secu- rity arrangements negotiated with the Palestinians to members of the Jewish community, some of whom "are not fully aware of the details of what's going on and deserve to be briefed," said an of- ficial at the Israeli Embassy, which is organizing the visit. Eight retired Israeli generals who are supportive of the peace process will visit 15 cities as they crisscross the country. The visit is timed to coincide with the expected signing of an agreement between Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organi- zation to expand Palestinian self- rule in the West Bank. The visit of the generals comes at a critical time because Con- gress will be considering the re- newal of legislation that allows U.S. funds to flow to the Pales- tinian Authority. The measure, known as the Middle East Peace Facilitation Act, is due to expire at the end of the month. The generals' visit also comes on the heels of a similar showcase of hawkish Israeli reserve gen- erals who recently came to Wash- ington at the invitation of the Jewish Institute for National Se- curity Affairs. At a public forum here, the generals spent most of the time criticizing the peace process. 548-7884 W. 10 Mile Rd. • Oak Park Hours: Mon., Thurs., Fri. 9 to 9 Tues., Wed. 9 to 6; Sat. 9 to 5 Jerusalem (JTA) — Three gun- men from the fundamentalist Hezbollah movement were killed in clashes with Israel Defense Force troops in the southern Lebanon security zone. The gunmen were on their way to carry out an attack against IDF and South Lebanon Army soldiers, Yaliot Achronot report- ed. The incident reportedly oc- curred when the IDF troops came upon a squad trying to enter the security zone. Two gunmen were killed in the exchange of fire, and the third af- ter a chase, Israeli sources said. Israeli Capt. Uri Polack sus- tained moderate injuries. The incident was part of a se- ries of encounters in recent weeks in which IDF troops killed some 20 gunmen in southern Lebanon during operations and clashes.
