Social Action Day
Sets Workshops

The second community-wide So-
cial Action Day will be held 1-4
p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, at the
Maple/Drake Jewish Communi-
ty Center It is presented by the
Social Action Committee Coun-
cil (SACC) and sponsored by the
Jewish Community Council, The
Jewish News and the Jewish
Community Center.
An information Arena will host
representatives from 30 social
service agencies, both Jewish and
secular, who have volunteer po-
sitions available.
`The Pollution Solution" a chil-
dren's environmental magic
show, will also be featured, and
door prizes will be given out to all
children and teens.
Arthur Horwitz, publisher of
The Jewish News, will moderate
the "You Can Make A Difference"
panel, including Dr. Nancy Fish-
man of Forgotten Harvest, Liz
Kanter Groskind of Volunteer
Impact, Jim Bellinson of Think
Twice and teenager Melissa
Klein.
Bernadette Ellsworth of the
Sanctuary and Gloria Danna-
Brooks of the Women's Survival
Center will conduct an adult
workshop of familial abuse. A
workshop on end-of-life issues
will be run by Rabbi Bunny
Friedman of the Jewish Hospice
and David Techner of the Ira
Kaufman Chapel, Inc. A
Midrasha sponsored class, taught
by instructor Ed Codish on "So-
cial Action as a Sacred Jewish
Obligation" will provide a third
option for adult participants.
Gleaners will host a workshop
on "How to Organize a Food Dri-
ve," while the South Oakland
County Resource and Recovery
Authority (SOCRRA) will demon-
strate how families can become
involved in environmental issues.
Admission to the program is
one can of food or one new chil-
dren's book.

CHAIM Holds
Panel Discussion

On Thursday, at 7:30 p.m. Oct.
5 at the Jewish Community
Center in West Bloomfield,
C.H.A.I.M.-Children of Holo-
caust-Survivors Association In
Michigan, will present a com-
munity Holocaust educational
program.
A panel discussion will be held
featuring Holocaust survivors
Alex Ehrmann and David Ka-
han, who recently traveled to
Germany to attend the 50th an-
niversary liberation ceremonies
in the town from where they
were liberated. They will discuss
their reactions returning to
Germany and interacting with
the Germans they met there.
