Judaism, Shabbat observance
and pretty much anything they
wish to explore. A first-grader is
learning aleph-bet with anoth-
er child.
Dr. Allen Stawis of West
Bloomfield learns with Rabbi Eli
Mayerfeld. Together, the two are
studying the laws of Shabbat.
"I like the chavrusah style," Dr.
Stawis said. "I originally didn't

think I wanted to do this. But I
have a great partner.
`There are a lot of personal re-
wards involved here. I wanted
to enrich myself with regard to
the laws of Shabbas, feeling it
would improve my comprehen-
sion. I felt I'd have more depth
by doing this, and I've learned a
lot. I wish I could study more (in
addition to time with Rabbi
Mayerfeld) to try to reinforce it
more. But, the program has giv-
en me a lot of practical points
and I plan to continue indefi-
nitely." ❑
