fers a home for hundreds of Jew-
ish students to celebrate the
holidays and participate in edu-
cational and cultural events.
The Moscow Hillel evolved
from the American Jewish Joint
Distribution Committee's (JDC)

The international
Hillel network has
500 centers.

Melton senior educators program
in Jerusalem. The Hillel has host-
ed a Rosh Hashanah party for
120 students, a three-day Sukkot
retreat and Chanukah song and
dance performances, and contin-
ues to hold weekly Shabbat pro-
grams.
Between 500 and 1,000 stu-
dents have taken part in Hillel
activities to date, and many more
will be reached as plans for ex-
pansion to seven other sites
throughout the former Soviet
Union are under way.
The Moscow Hillel is directed
by Genia Mikhailova, who at-
tended a number of programs in
Israel co-sponsored by JDC and
the International Hillel Founda-
tions. A Moscow resident, Ms.
Mikhailova recently attended the
annual International Hillel con-
ference in the United States
where she received guidance for
her colleagues and learned new
ways to reach out to her students.
She plans to keep in touch with
her new friends from the confer-
ence and update them on the
many upcoming events of the
Moscow Hillel.
