"Makor Chaim" (Fountain of Life) is a compilation of psalms, meditations, readings and prayers for patients and relatives and friends of the ill. The book- let includes prayers in English and Hebrew, and was edited by the Rabbinical Assembly. Many area hospitals current- ly have few resource materials available for Jewish patients and visitors. According to Sharona Shapiro, American Jewish Committee area director: "It is our hope that local hospitals will continue to add materials that will help the Jewish patient and visitor. Many hospitals currently have cooper- ative agreements with syna- gogues and temples regarding special religious services and ob- servance programs, but this booklet serves a different pur- pose. It is not dependent on a cer- tain time of year or the efforts of specific rabbis or visiting groups. This booklet will be avail- able at any time in the hospital chapel or chaplain's office." For further information, call the Michigan Board of Rabbis or Jewish Community Council at (810) 642-5393; or the American Jewish Committee at (810) 646- 7686.
