programming for single Jewish
fathers. It did, however, recent-
ly establish the Institute for Sin-
gle Jewish Mothers, providing
support services and social pro-
grams.

Men have their own
set of needs.

"We know single dads bring
their children to our programs
and they are included in our
general outreach, but we don't
have anything specifically for
them," said Sue Stettner, the di-
rector of JEFF.
JEFF's outreach has tradi-
tionally focused on women be-
cause, according to Ms. Stettner,
women statistically have more
needs after a divorce.
Bernie said men have their
own set of needs, including
learning how to assume domes-
tic roles.
"A lawyer, the only guy in the
group to have custody of his
kids, said he could use some ad-
vice in homemaking. This isn't
something he could learn in law
school," Bernie said.
Added Ms. Stettner, 'We'll be
looking at their concerns and
see where to go next. This focus
group is just the beginning."
