END OF MODEL YEAR
outdoor league play picks up
again April-June.
The Blazers '84 did exception-
ally well in its three MSYSA
tournaments over the past
month. In mid-August. the team
won the Waterford Cup and the
Dearborn Invitational Soccer
Tournament.
Over Labor Day weekend, the
team finished third in the Bay
Challenge Cup in Bay Village,
Ohio. It was its first loss in 13
games. In the past three tour-
naments, the girls have
outscored their opponents 53-5.
THE SKINNY: Woodberg says the
Blazers '84 work well as a team.
He says, "Konheim, a striker, is
turning out to be a very good of-
fensive player. She has the best
left-footed kick on the team and
has already scored several game-
winning goals.
"Dana, a defender, is one of the
team's leaders. She is very smart
and tough defensively, does not
panic under pressure and dis-
tributes the ball well to other
teammates."
Woodberg, a Southfield resi-
dent, works in his family's busi-
ness, Annex Electric Supply in
Detroit.
QUOTE: "When I am coaching, I
treat the girls as if they were all
my daughters, although I am es-
pecially proud of Dana," Woodberg
said. "Everyone on our team con-
tributes equally. There really are
no star players because all of the
girls have tremendous talent."
