COBO CLEANERS WILL CLEAN YOUR TALLIT (talks!) FREE OF CHARGE AT ANY TIME Shalom. My name is Yair Reuven. During the years 1991-1993, my wife, Denise and I, owned the Early Ruby Cleaners, located at Livernois and Curtis (the same building that was occupied by Cobo Cleaners from 1938-1988). It was amazing for me to see Jewish stars and The Ten Commandments engraved in stone on top of past synagogues, now churches in the area; painted-over mezzuzot still remain nailed to the doorposts of many homes. In 1992, before Rosh Hashana, I was called to the front counter to give a price on a "special item". I was told by my front counter manager that this customer had something that looked like an old "tablecloth". For a moment I was confused; a Jewish person in my store with an old faded TALLIT in his hand. He asked me what the price would be to clean it. I answered "$5.00" not knowing the real price. For the first time in my life I was asked to clean a religious Jewish article. For a moment I thought that this would be a fair price. The old man answered, "I thought it would be less than that", yet, he left the "tallit" with us anyway. As I was walking back to the cleaning room, I realized that I had acted foolishly, charging him to clean a tallit was absurd. I knew right then that I would not charge him to clean this tallit. When he picked it up a few days later I personally serviced this old Jewish man. I thanked him for bringing the tallit to me. I explained that I had made a mistake by quoting him a price and there would not be any charge. I wished him "Shana Tova" and "Chatimah Tovah" (Happy New Year and may you be inscribed in the Book Of Life). From that day on, without knowing where this business would lead me, I vowed never to charge for a "TALLIT" again. today, in West Bloomfield, in our new loca- tion, I am now fulfilling this vow and intend to preserve it. SHANA TOVA AND CHATIMAH TOVAH to all of you. Sincerely, Yair and Denise Reuven COBO CLEANERS Second Generation of Craftsmanship in Cleaning 6225 Orchard Lake Rd.
