Ms. Cassels coached cheer-
leading at Sterling Heights High
School from 1980 to 1993, pro-
ducing five Class A State Cham-
pions. In 1988, she opened Cheer!
Michigan! with a handful of staff
and 400 students.
Today, she employs 40 people,
some of whom have been with the
camp since it opened. Her Birm-
ingham home is headquarters for
the business, which grossed about
$600,000 this season.
During the winter, Ms. Cassels
runs "Cheer for Charity," a cheer-
leading competition that nets
about $10,000 for a selected char-
ity, and she often is hired to speak
about motivation and lead cor-
porate workshops.
"I'm basically a nester and re-
ally enjoy working out of my
home with my two cats and dog
as company," Ms. Cassels says.
"In the summer, the cats stay at
home, but the dog, Winnie, is the
camp mascot."
Camp sessions are divided by
age for students in grades 6
through 9 and for students in
grades 10 through college.
Fees for the 4-day student-
skills camp range from $130 to
$165. Attendees can participate
in activities like dance and pow-
er jumping and sessions in self-
motivation and integrity and
ethics.
"My major goal is to instill
these girls with a sense of value
and importance and a realistic
level of self-esteem," Ms. Cassels
says. "I believe my staff and I
make a difference in these teens'
lives as they learn to accept and
believe in themselves."

Hyundai
Makes A Deal

Jerusalem — In a reciprocal deal,
South Korean giant Hyundai,
which built the new $120 million
power plant at the Dead Sea
Works, agreed to purchase some
$40 million in magnesium and
chemicals from the firm and to
award $25 million in subcon-
tracts to Israeli firms, Industry
and Trade Minister Micha Har-
ish revealed at ceremonies ded-
icating the power station. The
station includes two diesel gen-
erators, with an output of 60
megawatts.
In the second part of the deal,
the firm will build a $350 million
magnesium plant. Volkswagen
owns a 35 percent share of that
plant. Dead Sea Works general
manager Ori Bin-Nun said the
feasibility of building other
plants related to the magnesium
industry in Arad is being stud-
ied.
He also said an institute for
magnesium research will be es-
tablished in cooperation with
Ben-Gurion University.
