Sherry Shanbom has been
named business and profession-
al women's director for the Jew-
ish Federation of Metropolitan
Detroit. Ms. Shanbom, 32, will
assist the Women's Division in
raising funds on behalf of the Al-
lied Jewish Campaign and coor-
dinate outreach and education
programs. She previously worked
for WTVS-Channel 56 and at
Sinai Hospital coordinating spe-
cial projects. Ms. Shanbom is a
resident of Huntington Woods.

Paul Toby of West Bloomfield
has joined Dean Witter Reynolds
Inc. in Troy as an account execu-
tive. Mr. Toby, 23, previously
worked at Prudential Securities
as a marketing assistant.

The Ecumenical Institute for
Jewish-Christian Studies will
host its 1995 Fall Church-Syna-
gogue Tour beginning at 1:30
p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17, at Holy
Spirit Lutheran Church in West
Bloomfield. The tour will then
proceed to Prince of Peace
Catholic Church and Temple Kol
Ami, where Rabbi Norman Ro-
man will speak with the group.

The National Council of Jew-
ish Women/Greater Detroit
Section will kick off the 40th
NCJW National Convention on
Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 11
and 12, with programs that fea-
ture speakers Sheila Cockrel, a
Detroit city councilwoman, and
Detroit Mayor Dennis Archer.
Ms. Cockrel will speak at 7:30
p.m. Sept. 11 at the Community
House in Birmingham; Mayor
Archer will speak at 11 a.m. Sept.
12 in the Riverfront Ballroom in
the Westin Hotel in Detroit. For

Howard J. Gourwitz, an attor-

named chairman of the 11th an-
nual induction dinner of the
Michigan Jewish Sports Hall of

Zedek. Detroit Piston owner Bill
Davidson will present Will Robin-
son of the Pistons with an award,
and the Michigan Jewish Sports
Hall of Fame will induct former
Detroit Tiger Joe Ginsberg, box-
er Benny Goldberg and NHL
Stanley Cup champion Mike
Hartman.

The Sales and Marketing Ex-
ecutives of Detroit will hold a
roundtable discussion with top
area CEOs beginning 5 p.m.
Wednesday, Sept. 13, at the MSU
Management Education Center,

Troy. Speakers include Lee M.
Gardner, president of Masco Tech
Inc., and Stephen Strome, presi-
