grandchild the experience you've
always dreamed of. Teenagers
entering 10th-12th grade can spend
June 23-July 26, 1996 in Israel
exploring, learning and much more.

Super Sunday
Chairs Named

Maple-Drake
Program Plans

Barbara Tukel and H. James
Zack have been named chairmen
of Super Sunday, which kicks off
the Jewish Federation's 1996 Al-
lied Jewish Campaign, Oct. 1.

The Maple-Drake Jewish Com-
munity center will offer the fol-
lowing programs. "The Book of
Exodus - Text and Commentary"
will start on Monday, Sept. 11,
for 9 weeks from 1-2:30 p.m. This
class will be taught by Neham A.
Glogower, using various English
translations and traditional com-
mentary. Members: $70; non-
members: $80.
Neham A. Glogower also will
conduct a class from Monday,
Oct. 23-Nov. 27 (6 weeks) from
11:30-12:3- p.m. on women's
mitzvah obligations. Members:
$40; non-members: $55.
Dr. Marvin Weckstein, psy-
chiatrist, will lead a discussion
on coping with life's changes, in
a positive way on Wednesday,
Sept. 13, at 12:30 p.m. Members:
$1.50; non-members: $2.50.
Rabbi Bitran of Congregation
Shaarey Zedek B'nai Israel will
lead a discussion on the Jews liv-
ing in Chile and Argentina. The
program will take place on Mon-
day, Sept. 18, at 12:30 p.m. Non-
members: $1.50.

The community-wide
phonathon, 9:30 a.m.-9 p.m. in
the Max M. Fisher Building, will
help raise dollars that support
more than 60 agencies in Detroit,
Israel and 58 countries through-
out the world. Volunteers will
convey the 1996 Campaign
theme: For Ourselves. For Our
Children. For Israel. Forever.
Ms. Tukel was a coordinator
for volunteer recruitment for the
1995 Campaign. She is chairman
of the Jewish Federations' Com-
munity Outreach and Involve-
ment Department, a member of
the Jewish Federation Board of
governors and Women's Division
Board of Directors. She also is
past chairman of the Business
and Professional Women's Divi-
sion section.
Mr. Zack is an associate chair-
man of the Jewish Federation's
Community Services Division.
He is a vice president and mem-
ber of the executive committee
of Jewish Association for Resi-
dential Care and is on the board
of directors of the Birming-
ham/Bloomfield Art Association
and the Merrill/Palmer Institute
of Wayne State University.

Workmen's Circle
Sunday School

The Workmen's Circle/Arbeter
Ring is accepting applications for
Sunday school classes which be-
gin Sept. 10. The classes provide
a secular cultural Jewish educa-
tion, utilizing creative program-
ming in: Jewish history,
tradition, holidays, ethics, lan-
guage, art, music.

Historic Tour
Is Planned

Congregation Beth Achim Men's
Club will host a historic tour of
old Jewish Detroit on Sunday,
Sept. 17, beginning at 1 p.m. be-
ginning at Congregation Beth
Achim.

The normal deadline for
local news and publicity
items is noon Thursday, eight
days prior to issue date. The
deadline for birth announce-
ments is 10 a.m. Monday,
four days prior to issue date;
out-of-town obituaries, 10
a.m. Tuesday, three days pri-
or to issue date.

All material must be type-
written, double-spaced, on
872 x 11 paper and include
the name and daytime tele-
phone number of sender.
