Starting on Thursday, Oct.
12, and continuing through Nov.
20, Dr. Reuven Hammer, a pro-
fessor at the Jewish Theological
Seminary Jerusalem campus,
will teach as the second annual
Conservative Movement resi-
dent scholar. He will speak at
each of the six metro Detroit
Conservative congregations as
well as lead classes throughout
the community. Dr. Hammer
will lead a community-wide pro-
gram with area cantors cele-
brating Jerusalem's Tri-
Millenium in music and word
on Nov. 15 at Congregation
B'nai Moshe.
Dr. Leib has served on the
boards of the Jewish Communi-
ty Center, the Jewish Commu-
nity Council and the Federation
Task Force on Synagogue Rela-
tions. He is the immediate past
chairperson of the Detroit
Friends of the Jewish Theologi-
cal Seminary. He serves on the
Congregation Shaarey Zedek's
Board of Trustees.
Mrs. Tessler is active through-
out the Jewish community es-
pecially in Jewish education. She
is a past board member of Con-
gregation Beth Abraham Hillel
Moses, JARC, executive com-
mittee of Hillel day school as well
as having served as a vice-pres-
ident of Women's Division of
Metropolitan Detroit. In addi-
tion, Mrs. Tessler has been
Chairperson of the Jewish The-
ological Seminary's education
program (Sunday at the Semi-
nary in Detroit).
Dr. Leib and Mrs. Tessler are
members of the executive board
of the Detroit Friends of The
Jewish Theological Seminary.
