Ken Neumann & Victor Saroki
K
enneth Neumann of Neumann/Smith and Associates and
Victor Saroki of Victor Saroki and Associates are architects
who, like the late Charles Moore, care about creating some-
thing that fits a sense of place.
They were among the chosen architects who participated at an
American Institute of Architects fall retreat. Neumann's design of
a private residence in Ann Arbor, complete with a kennel for raising
bull mastiff, and Saroki's interior design of the Pontiac nightclub In-
dustry were highlighted. Last month these two firms were honored
with AIA awards—Saroki for the Industry nightclub and Neu-
mann/Smith for a private residence.

Both architects have varied projects. Some of Neumann's ac-
complishments include the National Corvette Museum, offices, syn-
agogues, jails, hospitals and private residences. Saroki's portfolio
includes Second City, townhouses, businesses and private residences.
"Style is something that comes and goes," explains Neumann.
What it takes to be a style-setter is being observant of what trends
are of interest in the society. Architecture transcends style."
"We also are good listeners," says Saroki, referring to the dedica-
tion to build on the aspirations of his clients.
They both realize they have a commitment to the community.
Because architecture can last forever.--Carla Schwartz
