copper and the top cap is brass."
Complementing the graceful rail in the
walkway are four beautiful Lowell Nesbitt
oils, each depicting a different flower. To
the left of the stairs are the two children's
rooms; the elegant master suite is on the
right.
Guests entering the suite are greeted by
an impressionistic painting from French
artist Zean de Botton. "It was my favorite
painting in my mother's house," Powers
explains. The hallway on the left leads to
Mr. Powers' dressing room, which features
a white and gray marble bathroom.
Next, in what used to be the bedroom,
is Mrs. Powers' hallway of closets. The orig-

converted into a sleek, luxurious retreat. A
two-story glass block wall is the backdrop
for the iron chaise upholstered in white
terry cloth.
On the left is a nickel-plated metal ar-

marble top. Adding contrast on the right is
the feminine dressing table covered in a
combination of delicate white fabrics.

The glass block was repeated over the
white marble tub. "The architect was very
particular that everything had to be pro-
portioned evenly," Powers says. "I love the
purity of this space."
The bedroom's wood floors are stained
dark. The ceiling, which has cove lighting,
is a sunflower yellow color. "It took a few
tries to get the color right, but it is fresh and
always makes me feel good," the owner
says. "I used touches of blue and white and
wanted a European feel to the room."
Sophisticated elegance are the operative
words to describe the room. Looking regal
against the wall, the four-poster metal bed,
draped in a white gauze fabric, features cus-
tom linens in white and blue Fortuny and
Canovas fabrics created by Carlinas Drap-
ery in St. Clair Shores.
A collection of tortoise and hand-paint-
ed folk boxes rests on top of the 18th-cen-
tury partner's desk that serves as a night
stand on the left of the bed. The curved
lines of the old Portuguese desk chair add
a pleasing contrast. A new Baker dresser
