Prospective clients can immediately dis-
cern that Powers' house reflects her philoso-
phy of design. "I like clean, open spaces
and neutral backgrounds," she states. "I
feel furniture should be the backdrop to
architecture and art. I also like natural
fabrics and a lot of natural light."
Her eclectic home also reflects her
changing taste. "My lifestyle became more
casual and I wanted to give my home a soft-
er, warmer feel," Powers explains. "I broad-
ened my base to incorporate my interest in
art and antiques, and I love using antique
Oriental rugs.
"Our bedroom is more traditional than
the rest of the house, but I really like to mix
things. I love the idea of collections and try
to encourage my clients to develop them.
I pay close attention to small details be-
cause I feel they are what makes a home
