A full-time youth director for each ship
enables the cruise line to increase the
on-board activities for younger passen-
gers. For example, children interested
in keeping in shape can attend aerobics
classes held especially for them, or they
can perform their favorite hits at kids'
karaoke parties. Ship entertainers offer
special performances for children and
exclusive backstage tours plus tours of
the ships' bridge and galley. Teen
makeovers and fashion tips from the
ships' beauty experts, photography work-
shops, arts and crafts classes, and Indi-
an-style assemblies are all part of the
Princess Cruises
Four ships of this line, Sky, Star, Gold-
en, and Sun Princess (December 1995),
feature special youth centers with ac-
tivities supervised by a youth-activities
coordinator and a staff of counselors. The
other ships have no separate youth fa-
cilities, but a children's program is of-
fered when 15 or more children are on
Activities for children include an
evening schedule of events such as board
game tournaments, pizza parties and
movies for the younger set. The Star
Princess and Sky Princess each have a

Norwegian Cruise Line
You won't have to pay for children un-
der age 2 when they stay in your cab-
in on the Norwegian Cruise Line.
However, your chances of enjoying a
good family vacation are better if your
kids are a few years older. Baby-sitting
is available only after 12 noon on all
ships, and there is no nursery for the
youngest set.
There are organized activities for chil-
dren 3 to 5 years old available during the
mornings when the ship is at sea, and
during the summer months, winter
break and holidays.
On the other hand, Norwegian Cruise
ships have a youth coordinator for kids
6 to 12 and a year-round teen coordina-
tor for kids 13 to 17. In fact, you'll prob-
ably want to request main seating (early)
in the dining room because there are so
many evening activities planned for chil-
dren of these ages.
