C RITICAL ISSUES IN AMERICA FORUM CAREGIVING: HELPING YOURSELF HELP OTHERS Jewish _ a.m., marks the opening day of the Jewish Par- ents Institute's Institute forty-seventh year of classes, and for some, the question re- mains: What is the JPI? JPI is a unique, successful Sun- day School, operating out of the Jewish Community Center at Maple/Drake. It is a family-ori- ented, parent-driven alternative to traditional Sunday schools. The Institute offers a dynamic Jewish education, which includes, holi- day celebrations, an optional B'- nai Mitzvah program, teen activities, and adult program- ming. Parentts \ The curriculum specifies Holi- day and Bible stories, early Jew- ish history, modem Israel and its creation as a state, Jews of the Di- aspora, Anti-Seinitism, the Holo- caust, and contemporary Jewish values and issues. The optional B'nai Mitzvah includes a com- munity related work project, and combines it with a rite of passage ceremony. The ceremony is shared by the students, their families and their guests. The JPI gears its school for chil- dren between the ages of 3 and 14. Older teens are welcome and in- vited to the JPI teen club, and to work in the schoolrooms as Teen Assistants. All inquiries about JPI should be directed to Marilyn Wolfe at (810) 661-7637.
